CCAC Revised Guidance on Euthanasia Using Carbon Dioxide
The CCAC has released the CCAC Revised Guidance on Euthanasia Using Carbon Dioxide (2020). The revised guidance was developed by the CCAC Secretariat staff taking into consideration the most recent scientific literature and expert opinion, and was reviewed by the CCAC Standards Committee and CCAC Board of Directors. It replaces the guidance concerning carbon dioxide use in the CCAC guidelines on: euthanasia of animals used in science (2010), specifically, Guideline 13.
The CCAC hopes this revised guidance, combined with each institution’s experience in implementing the euthanasia guidelines, will assist institutions in developing species-specific standard operating procedures for the use of carbon dioxide with their particular facility setup. In addition, the CCAC training module: euthanasia of animals in science has been updated, and provides an overview of the guiding principles of euthanasia in science.
The CCAC will be revising the CCAC guidelines on: euthanasia of animals used in science (2010) within the next few years. In the interim, we invite comments and feedback on this revised guidance.
