The CCAC welcomes two post-doctoral fellows for Three Rs development
The CCAC is pleased to welcome post-doctoral fellows, Ms. Jessica Cait and Ms. Aileen MacLellan as they each complete a two-year study in the Three Rs. Working with Dr. Marc Avey, director of Standards, the fellows will assist the CCAC in developing evidence-based recommendations to help advance the integration of Three Rs practices in the ethical care and use of animals.
Ms. Cait is working in conjunction with Dr. Georgia Mason at the University of Guelph. By designing systematic review protocols and meta-analysis methodologies, Ms. Cait’s project will address questions on replication and translation, and will highlight the importance of animal welfare in the validity of animal research.
Ms. MacLellan, along with Dr. Manoj Lalu at the University of Ottawa, will investigate the current impacts of animal care committees on research during the protocol review process. Her findings will assist the CCAC in the development of resources to support researchers and animal care committees when writing and reviewing protocols to enhance the quality of the research, help improve the reliability of findings, and reduce animal use.
