CCAC Expands Recognition Awards
CCAC program participants can now nominate colleagues for three new awards that better reflect the breadth and depth of the scientific community!
Every year, thousands of scientists, instructors, animal health technicians, animal care committee coordinators, facility managers, veterinarians, animal welfare experts, and community representatives contribute their knowledge and skills to the CCAC’s mission. In recognition of these contributions, there are now three awards to honour outstanding individuals and give thanks for their time and expertise.
The Harry C. Rowsell Lifetime Achievement Award, previously named the Harry C. Rowsell Award for Outstanding Service to the CCAC, is in recognition and celebration of individuals who have made a lifetime of exceptional contributions to the improvement of animal care and welfare practices in science. This person has also shown great dedication to the CCAC and to promoting ethical standards of animal care and use. This award was named for the CCAC’s founding executive director, who devoted his life to promoting the optimal care and use of animals in Canadian science.
The Gilles Demers Award for Excellence in Animal Care recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their institutional animal care and use program, upholding high ethical standards and practices, and who actively champion the CCAC program within their organization. This award, named for the late Dr. Gilles Demers (a long-time assessment director at the CCAC), highlights the great importance of institutional animal care staff and volunteers (e.g., animal care committee coordinators and other members of the committee, community representatives, animal health technicians, facility managers) and the essential role they play in helping the CCAC fulfill its mandate.
The CCAC Emerging Leader Award recognizes individuals with less than 10 years of experience in a leadership role in the field of ethical animal care and use, who have demonstrated exceptional growth in their levels of leadership, responsibility, sphere of impact, and contribution to both the ethical care and use of animals in science and to the CCAC. Emerging leaders play a crucial role in improving the welfare of animals in science as they have the potential to drive positive change, innovation, and growth.
Help us highlight some of the country’s best and brightest, working to further the ethical care and use of animals in science, by nominating deserving individuals for these awards. While a nominee can only win an award once, complete nomination packages from previous years may be resubmitted. Submit your nominations by March 31, 2024 at 11:59 p.m EDT.
