You Make a Difference. Thank You!

CCAC Happy National Volunteer Month Banner

Happy National Volunteer Month! On behalf of the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC), I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, CCAC’s volunteers and stakeholders, for all of the time, expertise, and knowledge you have shared with us over the years.

National Volunteer Month is an annual celebration intended to spur an important conversation – why volunteers matter. Here at the CCAC, the work our volunteers do is essential. Everything we do and all that we achieve is thanks to you.

The CCAC relies on the support of approximately 2,000 people, serving on more than 200 local animal care committees, to help fulfill its mandate in institutions across Canada. We are also fortunate to work with hundreds of volunteers who give their time to the CCAC participating on the Board of Directors and numerous committees, subcommittees, task forces, and assessment panels. Still more volunteers comment on documents and translations, or review the drafts of CCAC guidelines documents.

In 2023-2024 alone:

  • 55 people served on one of the CCAC’s five standing committees
  • 104 volunteers participated on guidelines development subcommittees
  • 17 people participated on working groups or task forces
  • 53 were assessment panel members
  • 17 presented at our in-person national workshop

You can see our list of volunteers on our website.

Together, we share the common goal of ensuring the ethical care and use of all animals in Canadian science. Your collaboration in diligently spreading this message and delivering our program in institutions across Canada is tremendously appreciated. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a wealth of experience within our ranks of volunteers.

Once again, thank you for the valuable work you do. We could not do it without you.

Kindest regards,

Mr. Pierre Verreault
Executive Director
