Call for Members: Assessment and Certification Committee

The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) is looking for volunteers for its Assessment and Certification Committee. Tasked with overseeing and supporting the Assessment and Certification team, the committee reviews assessment and implementation reports, makes recommendations on the assessment and certification of academic, government, and private organizations that use animals in science, and aids in the development of best practices for the assessment and certification of animal care and use programs. Consult the terms of reference for more information.

The CCAC is seeking four community representatives to fill these positions. The role of a representative of the Canadian public is to provide the viewpoint of someone who has never worked with animals in science but who can speak as a citizen primarily concerned about why and how they are used for this purpose (e.g., community representatives on animal care committees). These individuals should have a good general sense of public perspectives and concerns about animal-based research, teaching, and testing.

The CCAC strives to reflect the diversity of both the animal care and use community and society in its committees, to the greatest extent possible. Members will be appointed to serve an initial term of three years. Appointees are eligible for reappointment by the CCAC Board of Directors but may not serve more than six consecutive years, except in extenuating circumstances. Members will be approved by both the CCAC Governance and Nominations Committee and the board.

We would be grateful if you could please forward the names, brief biographies, CVs, and contact information of suitable candidates to the CCAC Secretariat at by May 17, 2024. Self-nominations are also welcome.
