The CCAC is Seeking Nominations for Its Board of Directors
The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) is seeking individuals to fill four positions on its board of directors to expand the breadth of expertise and guide the organization in alignment with the CCAC's mandate.
Founded in 1968, the CCAC is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Canadian public. As the national peer-review body, the CCAC sets, maintains, and oversees the implementation of rigorous standards for the ethical care and use of animals in science across Canada. The CCAC's mission is to ensure that animal-based science in Canada takes place only when necessary, and that animals used in studies receive optimal care according to high quality, research-informed standards.
The board's role is to offer responsible leadership and strategic guidance for the organization’s overall direction. The CCAC is actively seeking diverse representation from the animal welfare community, as well as from various sectors of the animal care system, including public, private, and academic fields. Specifically, this year, we are looking for members who represent the public, possess legal or judicial expertise, or have experience in the management of animal facilities.
The CCAC celebrates and respects the value of diversity and recognizes that it strengthens and adds richness to communities. It also contributes to more inclusive and representative decision-making in organizations. The CCAC further recognizes that some groups encounter barriers to equitable access and participation in their communities, at work, and in decision-making bodies or in other places of power. The CCAC encourages applications from individuals belonging to diverse groups of society, including persons with disabilities and individuals belonging to Indigenous communities or racialized groups, who possess the skills and knowledge to advance its mandate. The CCAC is also seeking to achieve a better age balance and increase geographical representation on its board.
Successful applicants are expected to complete a three-year term, attend two two-day in-person meetings (conditions permitting), and four or five two-hour videoconferences per year. Candidates not selected to sit on the board may be invited to contribute to other CCAC activities.
Applicants are invited to consult the Guidelines for Nominating Candidates for the CCAC Board of Directors for more information. Nominations should be forwarded to by April 25, 2025.
