Introducing the CCAC Strategic Plan 2026-2031
The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) is proud to share the CCAC Strategic Plan 2026-2031, "Building a Strong Future for Ethical Animal Care and Use in Canadian Science". This plan was shaped directly by the thoughtful feedback we received from program participants and other stakeholders through town hall discussions, collaborative dialogue, and comprehensive surveys. The dedication of these vital members of the CCAC community helps guide our work, and this strategic plan reflects our commitment to listening, evolving, and providing tools for success, for the benefit of both the scientific community and the animals used in science.
Guided by past successes and your feedback, the CCAC identified three interconnected goals for the next five years, all united by one central idea: modernizing the CCAC so program participants can carry out their work with confidence and efficiency, and with the best possible support for the animals in their care.
- Strengthen organizational resilience
By securing sustainable federal funding and strengthening engagement with government and stakeholders, the CCAC aims to reinforce its long-term resilience, ensuring it remains a strong and reliable partner, supporting the essential work carried out by Canada’s scientific community every day. - Optimize delivery of the CCAC program
We will build a more responsive and efficient system by integrating modern technologies, including AI, to streamline processes and program delivery. These improvements will allow program participants to focus on what matters most, upholding high standards of animal care and welfare. - Enrich support to program participants
By fostering sustained engagement and expanding services, the CCAC will better meet the needs of its community. More tools, clearer guidance, and enhanced support will strengthen Canada’s national culture of animal care and ethical animal-centred science, empowering institutions across the country.
This strategic plan is both a commitment to the future of ethical animal care and animal-based science, and a reaffirmation of the CCAC’s dedication to its stakeholders and partners. Your commitment to strengthening animal welfare in Canadian science is sincerely valued and we encourage you to anytime with questions, ideas, or comments.
