Call for Candidates: CCAC Board of Directors
The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) is seeking individuals to fill five positions on its board of directors to expand its breadth of expertise and guide the organization in alignment with the CCAC's mandate.
The CCAC has served as the national voice for the ethical care and use of animals in Canadian science since 1968. As an independent, non-profit organization, the CCAC sets, maintains, and oversees rigorous standards for the ethical care and use of animals in research, teaching, and testing across Canada. It ensures that animals are used only when effective alternatives do not exist and that all animal-based activities adhere to the CCAC’s ethical principles and national standards.
The board's role is to offer responsible leadership and strategic guidance for the organization’s overall direction. We are actively seeking broad and diverse representation from across the animal welfare community, including public, private, and academic sectors. We welcome individuals who bring a range of perspectives, lived experiences, and professional backgrounds that contribute to inclusive and equitable decision‑making.
This year, we are particularly interested in members of the public, individuals with legal or judicial expertise, and veterinarians. We also strongly encourage applications from bilingual candidates and individuals from Northern communities.
The CCAC celebrates and respects diversity and recognizes that it strengthens and adds richness to communities. It also contributes to more inclusive and representative decision-making in organizations. The CCAC further recognizes that some groups encounter barriers to equitable access and participation in their communities, at work, and in decision-making bodies or in other places of power. The CCAC encourages applications from individuals belonging to diverse groups of society, including persons with disabilities and individuals belonging to Indigenous communities or racialized groups, who possess the skills and knowledge to advance its mandate.
Successful applicants are expected to complete a three-year term and attend two two-day in-person meetings (conditions permitting) and four or five two-hour videoconferences per year. Candidates not selected to sit on the board may be invited to contribute to other CCAC activities.
Applicants are invited to consult the Guidelines for Nominating Candidates for the CCAC Board of Directors for more information. Nominations should be forwarded to by May 5, 2026.
