Harry C. Rowsell Lifetime Achievement Award
The Harry C. Rowsell Lifetime Achievement Award was named for the CCAC’s founding executive director, who devoted his life to promoting the optimal care and use of animals in Canadian science. Dr. Rowsell’s deep personal commitment to the humane treatment of animals, and his belief in ethical responsibility for their well-being, are evidenced through the many significant contributions he made during his career.
The Harry C. Rowsell Lifetime Achievement Award is therefore in recognition and celebration of individuals who have made a lifetime of exceptional contributions to the improvement of animal care and welfare practices in science. This individual has also shown great dedication to the CCAC and to promoting ethical standards of animal care and use.
Criteria
- Made a strong impact on the ethical care and use of animals in Canadian science, including the promotion of Three Rs practices.
- Made significant and sustained contributions to the goals of the CCAC throughout their career and volunteer service.
- Empowered and uplifted others within their institution and their field, including in the areas of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- More than 20 years of experience working in the field of animal care and use, including (but not limited to) scientists, researchers, veterinarians, and laboratory animal technicians.
Previous nomination packages for this award may be resubmitted if they meet all criteria. Previous winners of this award, active or past members of the CCAC Secretariat, active members of the CCAC board of directors, and those who do not meet the stated criteria are not eligible for this award. Only one winner will be chosen from each category.
Each nomination package must include a completed nomination form and no more than five (5) pages responding to the nomination questions. No cover letters or additional materials will be accepted as part of the nomination package or included in the evaluation of the nominee. All responses must be typed, in an 11-point font, and in PDF format.
The CCAC values diversity in experience, background, knowledge, cultures, and skills. We therefore encourage award nominations for all members of our community that meet the above criteria. Please send completed nomination packages to the CCAC at (nominations will be accepted by email only). All completed nominations must be received by email by March 1, 2025, 11:59pm (EST).
