Dr. Alexandra Whittaker
University of Adelaide

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Alexandra Whittaker from the University of Adelaide, will present “One Welfare in the Lab: Integrating Human, Animal, and Environmental Wellbeing in Research Settings”. This session will explore how the One Welfare framework can be meaningfully applied to the care and use of research laboratory animals, highlighting the interconnectedness between animal welfare, human wellbeing, and environmental considerations. Dr. Whittaker will share practical strategies for embedding One Welfare principles into ethical review processes, facility design, and researcher support. Attendees will gain valuable insights into how a holistic, integrative approach can enhance both welfare standards and scientific outcomes.

This virtual half-day event will also offer engaging presentations focused on the ethical care and use of animals in science, including CCAC guidelines and animal welfare assessment for specific species. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to exchange best practices and discuss common animal care challenges with colleagues from across our broad community. This workshop is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for all members of the CCAC network.

Stay tuned for the complete program and registration information, and be sure to mark June 4, 2026 on your calendar. We look forward to connecting with you in June!
