Registration is Open for the CCAC’s Webinar on Fish Welfare!

Zebrafish

The second webinar in the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC)’s Virtual Learning Series, Fish Welfare and Aquatic Facilities, is now open for registration.

For several years, fish have figured in the top three most used animals in Canadian science. Unfortunately, they are also at the centre of many animal welfare incidents. Fish welfare extends far beyond the well‑being of the fish themselves; increasing fish welfare is also a critical part of reliable and reproducible science. This session will focus on best practices related to maintaining a healthy aquatic environment and help participants understand the stressors that affect fish so that they may ensure the highest standards of care for fish welfare. This will be followed by a general discussion and Q&A.

English Session: Wednesday, November 20, 2024, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. EST

This virtual session is the second in the CCAC’s new Virtual Learning Series, which is aimed at improving the ethical care and use of animals in Canadian science. They will bring together program participants within CCAC-certified institutions to discuss best practices and address the challenges associated with the implementation of CCAC guidelines and policies. These sessions will be recorded and made available to all registered participants.

The third virtual session in this series is Animal Welfare Assessment on January 29 and 30, 2025. Registration for this session will open on January 7, 2025.
